Small (but mighty) Campsites

Updated: May 4

Sometimes you just want to get away from it all, safe and happy in the knowledge that you are not going to have to wait for the showers, or be kept up at night by noisy fellow campers. Quiet, friendly and bijou is the focus of this blog post. You can kick back and relax, knowing that we have done the hard searching for you. Hold onto your hats, these are some small (but mighty) campsites!

Glyncoch Isaf Farm, Llangrannog, Ceredigion, Wales

Such a stunning location for exploring the beaches, waterfalls, rivers and beautiful countryside of Ceredigion. This glorious campsite has a mixture of grass and hard standing pitches with views to the north of the Cambrian and Snowdonia mountain ranges. If you prefer a little more comfort, they also have a couple of bell tents, a fully furnished yurt and a couple of delightful cottages for hire. Whilst you can have raised BBQs, please do note that you can't have campfires at this location. There are so many place to explore and actitivies to try nearby - you are only three miles from the simply stunning Cardigan Bays Marine Heritage Coastline, resident dolphins and miles of sandy beaches. If you prefer scamping more in-land you can try your hand at dry slope skiing, kart racing or visit the nearby Cardigan Castle or St Dogmael's Abbey.

Low Greenside Farm, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria

We are really excited about this find - such stunning views of the rolling Cumbrian hills from the gloriously spacious pitches. Low Greenside is a small traditional hill sheep farm at the foot of the Howgill Fells in Cumbria's Upper Eden Valley. What we really love the look of is that whilst they have a relatively large space, pitches are not crammed in. Everyone has space of their own and the large unmown grass and wildflowers in the centre means that everyone gets a piece of the stunning views. They also have a yurt and bell tent if you prefer the glamping vibe. You are on the doorstep of so many things to do here - from scores of walks straight from the campsite, to day trips to the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, and the Pennine Dales Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Just around the local village of Ravenstonedale there is golf, tennis, a nature reserve and castle ruins for jam-packed days of scamping!

Low Greenside's mantra is "Camping as it used to be". The National Park has designated these guys as a Dark Sky Friendly campsite in the International Dark Sky Reserve so the camping field is unlit, giving you the chance of seeing some wonderful starry skies and even shooting stars. It really does look idyllic, no shops/visiting pizza vans/entertainment, just relaxed camping with fabulous views and your own campfire. Just perfect.

Treen Farm Campsite, St Levan, Cornwall

Unzipping your tent in the morning to views over the Cornish coastline - what a stunningly perfect way to start the day. Walks to and along the coastline are the order of the day here in St Levan. Take your pick from the five sandy beaches (known as the string of pearls) set within the parish of St Levan. Treen Farm Campsite is only a 10 minute walk from the achingly beautiful Pedn Vounder and Porthcurno, a slightly longer walk can take you to the small fishing cove of Penberth, or up to the famous Minack Theatre. Whilst Lands End and Sennen are only a 10 minute drive away, you could instead choose to take in the phenomenal views by foot and walk the coastal path to Lands End (which is not for the feint hearted taking approximately 3 hours). There are no bookings here (and caravans and large motor homes won't be able to fit down the lane), therefore the pitches are filled on a first come, first served basis, so do take the time to call and check first.

All pitches have picnic tables to enjoy the view from and there is a fully licensed, well stocked shop onsite along with a campers kitchen. Whilst there is a communal fire pit in the field below the campsite, please note that you can't have your own individual campfire, but raised charcoal BBQs are allowed. You also get to see the Guernsey cows going past the campsite each day, and you can buy their dairy bounty at the farm gate in the village. We can’t wait to visit!

Canal Camping, Dilham, Norfolk

We are obsessed with this place! It looks utterly enchanting and we can't wait to book ourselves in! You can wake up in your beautifully situated tent, right in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, stroll over to your canoe (they have their own private canal in the campsite!) and immerse yourself in a scamping adventure along the most beautiful 125 miles of navigable waterways. Just stunning. Pitches are spacious in this peaceful oasis and you can have open braziers on your pitch - perfect for cooking your evening meal on and then relaxing around whilst you stargaze and recharge after your rowing exertions. It goes without saying that you can hire canoes and paddle boards here so that you can explore parts of this superb waterland that other craft can’t get to quite as easily. If you would prefer to sleep in relative comfort, they also have three beautifully furnished bell tents to hire. Not into canoeing? Don't worry, within short distances from the campsite you are on the Norfolk coast with lots of beaches to scamp on, castles and stately homes to explore, villages and museums to visit and cake shops to indulge in!

Cosy Camping, Suffolk

Cosy Camping really lives up to its name - it looks glorious! You can choice from pitching your own tent in spacious pitches, cosying up in one of their 8 en-suite pods or pretty bell tent or how about a couple of nights in a beautifully converted grain silo? Frankly, we can't think of anything better! This small, independent family run site looks super inviting, a happy place to lay your heads for a few days whilst you explore the surrounding Suffolk countryside. Lots of scamping opportunities nearby, from the Sutton Hoo, to Jimmy's Farm and Wildlife Park, to the beautiful sandy beaches in and around Felixstowe and all of the glorious walks and wildlife in-between, mean that you are going to thoroughly enjoy your evenings relaxing around the campfire looking at the stars!

So there you have it - five small (but mighty) campsites. Which one are you going to?
