Anglesey Abbey, Gardens and Lode Mill

Day trip to Anglesey Abbey, Gardens and Lode Mill to catch up with some Midlands based family.

What a gem! We have driven past countless times, along the A14, and never known it was here.

Gorgeous setting - huge grounds and we only just scratched the surface of the gardens. But oh my word, what flowers! Summer certainly is in bloom! An inordinate number of statues too.

The house was charming and jam packed full of treasures, including a couple of Constables. Really refreshing to go round somewhere that didn’t have “do not touch signs” everywhere and things weren’t hidden away. Really lovely.

Further into the gardens and along a river is an eighteenth-century watermill with traditional machinery. Sadly not working, but setting is idyllic - complete with a family of swans.

Fabulous and we thoroughly recommend stopping off if you get the chance.
